The Commodores women’s golf team travels to Tulsa, Okla., this Monday through Wednesday to compete in the Dale McNamara Fall Preview, which will be held at the site of the 2014 NCAA Championship, the Tulsa Country Club.

“It’s quite an honor to compete in the Fall Preview and have the opportunity to play the National Championship golf course where we hope to return in May,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen, who is entering his seventh season as head coach of the Commodores. “Like most tournaments we play in, the Preview has a strong field. We need to develop a good game plan during the practice round and then just go compete with confidence.”

The Commodores, who enter the 2013-14 campaign ranked ninth in the Golf World/WGCA Coaches Poll, will take part in the preview with some of the nation’s top programs. Vanderbilt will be joined by Alabama, Arizona, Arizona State, Arkansas, Duke, Georgia, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Stanford, Texas, Tulane, Tulsa, and USC. All teams competing are in the top 18 of the preseason poll except the host Golden Hurricane.

Vanderbilt will send juniors Irina Gabasa and Kendall Martindale, sophomore Morgan Ransom, and newcomers Katie Rose Higgins, who is a graduate student, and freshman Antonia Scherer.

“The start of a new season is always an exiting time for me, especially when we have as many new faces like this year,” said Allen. “This team is deep and is loaded with talent both athletically and academically. We could see several different lineups throughout the year.”

Vanderbilt tees off at 8 a.m. Central Time off of the first hole with 2013 NCAA Champion Southern Cal and Texas, who is coached by former Vanderbilt mentor Martha Richards.
