Head Coach Melanie Balcomb

On Vanderbilt’s guard play:
“I like being able to move (Jasmine) Lister to the two-guard because she’s a scorer and she’s shooting the ball well. And I like having Maggie (Morrison) at the point to distribute. The guards work well for each other. When you have two wings that can shoot the three and beat people off the dribble, that’s a good look for us.”

On the playing time of Jasmine Lister and Christina Foggie:
“We had Gabby Smith out and Kady Schrann got hurt early in the game and we didn’t want to play her anymore. I tried to take Jasmine out to keep her fresh because she sets the tone for us defensively and we can’t afford to have her resting on defense. When we get Gaby back and Kady healthy we won’t have to play them as much.”

On the play of juniors Elan Brown and Tiffany Clarke:
“Elan and Tiff’ are starting to be a lot more confident and focused in practice. We really liked Tiff’ coming after not practicing and being injured and playing the way she did. She gave us really good productivity in spurts and played hard. Elan’s been consistent all preseason with a better focus and toughness than we’ve ever seen her have. Nobody is talking about Elan and I like that because Elan is going to surprise a lot of people. I think she’s a different player than her first year here.”

On playing against the zone:
“That surprised me. (Alabama A&M) hasn’t played a lot of zone and when they did they played two-three last year. Then they came out and played three-two. We didn’t prepare much against zone. Everyone else has been running jumping us and trying to make us go fast. And you saw tonight that when we get to go slow were pretty good shooters. We started off shooting six for ten from three and they had to go man. We were surprised they played so much zone, we weren’t expecting that.”
