HOWELL, N.J. – Vanderbilt bowling ranks fourth in the Garden State Classic standings after grinding out wins in all five of its matches on Friday at Howell Lanes.
“Overall, it was a solid day,” head coach John Williamson said. “The pins didn’t fall as easily as they have been, but we did a good job of grinding it out and staying in the cut. Winning all the matches today was important. Tomorrow we’ll be better than we were today, but overall, I can’t really complain.”
The Commodores started off the day using a lineup of Isabel Allen, Alyssa Ballard, Paige Peters, Haley Lindley and Victoria Varano to defeat Holy Family 1,033-782. In Round 2, Bryant took an early 49-pin lead after Game 1, but Vandy recovered to win the match by a score of 1,012-922.
Vanderbilt continued working its way to wins over Dominican (N.Y.) (1,043-896), Coppin State (996-901) and Delaware State (1,004-905) to close out the day.
The Dores compiled a pin total of 5,088 on Day 1. They are 340 pins behind top-seeded Jacksonville State but only trail No. 3 seed Youngstown State by 10 pins. Nebraska earned the No. 2 spot on the leaderboard.
The Garden State Classic continues Saturday at 7:55 a.m. CT when Vanderbilt faces North Carolina A&T in its first of five traditional matches. Fans can watch on YouTube and follow @VandyBowling on X/Twitter for updates.
