May 29, 2015

The following are statements from head coach Kevin Stallings and director of athletics David Williams on the passing of former Vanderbilt basketball player Dai-Jon Parker, who died of an apparent drowning Thursday.

Men’s Basketball Coach Kevin Stallings:
“We are extremely saddened with the news of Dai-Jon’s death. Everyone who watched him play basketball knew what kind of athlete he was. But, to those of us who knew him and loved him, he was as good and happy of a person as you would ever meet. He always had a smile on his face and I will always remember him for that smile and the positive spirit he had. We send our deepest condolences and prayers to his family, friends, and others who were lucky enough to have met him. The Vanderbilt basketball family will miss him.”

Director of Athletics David Williams:
“The Vanderbilt Athletics Department and our entire campus community mourn the tragic loss of Dai-Jon Parker. Dai-Jon’s impact reached beyond the basketball court. If you knew Dai-Jon, you loved him. He had a cheerful outlook on life and we are all so saddened at a life cut short. He left us much too soon. The prayers from all of us in his Vanderbilt family go out to his mother and other family members. Rest in peace our dear friend. You will be missed but not forgotten.”
