| 2013-14 SEC Schedule
The Southeastern Conference released the 2014 men’s basketball slate on Tuesday, and the Commodores will be featured prominently with eight national television appearances, including home games with Florida, Kentucky, LSU and Missouri.
This is the second year of the 18-game, 14-team league schedule, which features teams playing five opponents twice and eight opponents once. Vanderbilt will meet LSU, Missouri, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Texas A&M twice in home-and-home series. Tennessee is Vanderbilt’s constant home and away opponent under the league’s new scheduling format.
Vanderbilt will also host Arkansas, Florida, Kentucky and Mississippi State. On the road, Vanderbilt will play at Alabama, Auburn, Georgia and South Carolina.
The Commodores will open league play on the road at Alabama on Tuesday, Jan. 7 (ESPNU). A few days later, Vanderbilt will return home to host Kentucky on Saturday, Jan. 11 in a game that will be televised nationally by CBS. The tip time will be either 12 p.m. or 2:30 p.m. CT. The Commodores will not be playing Kentucky twice in the regular season for the first time since the 1952-53 season when the two teams did not meet. Vanderbilt last did not play in Lexington, Ky., during 1996-97 season when the Wildcats and Commodores instead met in a neutral site game in Cincinnati, Ohio.
After hosting Kentucky, Vanderbilt will stay at home to host Missouri at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 16 (ESPN/ESPN2). It will be Missouri’s first visit to Memorial Gymnasium as a member of the SEC. Missouri last played at Memorial Gym in 2009 as a member of the Big 12 Conference. Vanderbilt will make a return trip to Missouri on Wednesday, Feb. 19 (SEC Network).
Vanderbilt will also make its first trek to College Station, Texas, on Saturday, Jan. 25 (ESPNU) to play at Texas A&M. The Commodores defeated the Aggies at Memorial Gym last season, and will meet twice in 2013-14.
Vanderbilt and Tennessee will meet for the first of two times at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 5 (ESPN3.com) at Memorial Gym. The two rivals will also play in Knoxville at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 1 (ESPN/ESPN2).
Last year, Vanderbilt did not meet Georgia in Athens, and this year the two teams will not meet in Nashville for the first time since the 1963-64 season. The Commodores will play at Georgia on Wednesday, Jan. 29 (CSS).
Vanderbilt will make its return to ESPN “Super Tuesday” on Feb. 25 when the Commodores host the Gators on ESPN (6 p.m.). It will mark Vanderbilt’s first “Super Tuesday” appearance since the 2012 season. After not hosting Florida last year, Vanderbilt will not travel to Florida this year for the first time since the 1964-65 season.
In addition to the six aforementioned national television games, the Commodores will also make two national television appearances against LSU. The squads will first meet on Saturday, Jan. 18 in Baton Rouge (ESPNU) and will play in Nashville on Thursday, Mar. 6 (ESPN/ESPN2).
The Commodores will also meet Ole Miss twice in the regular season for the first time since the 1990-91 season. The first meeting will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 22 at Memorial Gym (8 p.m., CSS). The two teams will close the SEC slate in Oxford on Saturday, March 8 (12:30 p.m., SEC Network).
The 2014 SEC Tournament will be held in Atlanta, Ga., March 12-16.
Vanderbilt’s non-conference schedule is still being finalized and will be released at a later date.
