The Vanderbilt men’s soccer team plays host to Eastern Illinois tonight at 7 p.m. CT in the Vanderbilt Soccer Complex.

Commodore Quick Kicks ? Vanderbilt was undefeated in six consecutive games from Sept. 19 – Oct. 3 with a 3-3 tie vs. Northwestern and wins against Memphis, Lipscomb, Wright State, Evansville and Southwest Missouri.
? The Commodores scored their first ever goal at Creighton when John Krause scored his 10th goal of the season. Creighton had outscored VU 15-0 to that point.

Commodores Unbeaten at Home Vanderbilt is 4-0-1 in home games this season. The Commodores lone tie was a 3-3 score vs. Northwestern in the first round of the Vanderbilt PUMA Classic. Earlier in the season, the Commodores had a six-game unbeaten streak (Sept. 19-Oct. 3), including five consecutive wins. It is the longest undefeated streak since 1996 when VU won six consecutive games. Vanderbilt’s six wins this season doubles the Commodore win total in 2002 (three) and 2003 (three).
Vanderbilt Wins First Two MVC Games of Season Vanderbilt is 2-4 in Missouri Valley Conference action. The Commodores started MVC play with a 2-0 record for the third time since joining the league in 1997. In 1998, VU started league play with a 2-0 record, including a victory over regular season champion Bradley (6-1-1) and Eastern Illinois. In 2000, VU was 2-0 with wins over Evansville and Western Kentucky. VU has won two MVC games this season which is more than the 2002 and 2003 season total combined. Vanderbilt won one league game in 2002 and was 0-7-2 last season.
Vanderbilt vs. Eastern Illinois This is the ninth meeting between these two teams with Vanderbilt holding a 4-3-1 lead in the series. Eastern Illinois enters the contest looking for its first MVC win of the season (0-5-0) The Commodores won the first four games of the series, before dropping the next three. Last season, VU and Eastern Illinois played to a 0-0 tie. Vanderbilt has not defeated the Panthers in the last four tries. Last Action ? Commodores Fall to #8 Creighton and Drake on the Road The #8 Creighton Blue Jays defeated Vanderbilt Friday night, 3-1, in cool, windy conditions in the new Morrison Stadium. Junior John Krause scored the lone goal for Vanderbilt to cut the Blue Jays lead to one, 2-1, at the 27:50 mark. Brian Biggerstaff scored Creighton’s first two goals giving the Blue Jays a 2-0 lead. His shot from 25-yards out at the 5:31 mark deflected off a Commodore. Biggerstaff then scored on a scissor kick from a cross four-yards out just past VU goalkeeper Kenny Schoeni. Krause scored his 10th goal of the season from 20 yards at the top of the box that went off a diving Zac Gibbens who was in goal for the Blue Jays. Prior to that goal, the Blue Jays had outscored Vanderbilt 15-0 in games played in Nebraska. Julian Nash then extended Creighton’s lead to 3-1 when he took a pass from Biggerstaff from 19-yards out for a score two minutes into the second half. Creighton outshot Vanderbilt 23-15 with Schoeni totaling nine saves. Justin Moreland and Krause led VU with four shots, followed by Josh Medcalf with two. The Drake Bulldogs shutout the Commodores Sunday, 3-0, at Cownie Stadium. It was the first time since the season opener that the Commodores were held scoreless in a game – a 1-0 loss to Belmont. The Bulldogs outshot Vanderbilt 21-10, led by Matt Nickell who totaled eight shots, including five on goal. Nickell’s most impressive stat of the day was the three assists he totaled in the contest. Drake’s first goal came at the 8:37 mark on a header by Besmir Bega. Ryan Samuelson then scored at the 64:21 mark after a steal and the final goal was by Vince Revak with just under 10 minutes remaining in the game. Freshman Joe Germanese totaled three shots, including one on goal, followed by Josh Medcalf and Justin Moreland with two shots, both on goal. VU goalkeeper Kenny Schoeni gave up the three goals while stopping nine shots on goal in 84:19. Senior Jamie Burns came into the game for the final 5:41 and totaled two saves. Drake’s Phillip Breuer earned his third shutout of the season with six saves.
Vanderbilt Ranked #10 in the Midwest Region The Commodores were ranked for the three consecutive weeks in the Midwest Region. After going undefeated in four consecutive games, VU broke into the regional rankings Sept. 28 at #10 and moved to #6 Oct. 4. VU was #10 Oct. 12. It was the first ranking for the Commodores since Tim McClement’s took over as head coach in 2002. Seven Commodore opponents are ranked in this week’s Midwest Region Poll. 2004 NSCAA/adidas? Double-Digit Commodores The Commodores have doubled their offensive output from last season. Vanderbilt totals 84 points in 14 games this season. Last season, Vanderbilt totaled 42 points in 18 contests. The Commodores have already tripled their 2003 assists total with 30 this season compared to last year’s 10 assists. Three Commodores total double digit points this season led by John Krause with 23. Joe Germanese totals 14, followed by Josh Medcalf with 11. Last season in 18 games, only three players totaled at least five points led by Jimmy Stone with nine.
