Vanderbilt Player Quotes

Guard/Forward Shan Foster:

On nothing coming easy this season:

“I think the word is out that we have a good team this year.  When teams come in and play us, they’re going to bring their ‘A’ game and that’s just the nature of it.”

On having a breakout game:

“My teammates and coaches all have great confidence in me.  JT, the whole game — even the first half when I missed like every shot that I took — he kept telling me to keep shooting, and that’s what I did.  I shot the ball pretty well in practice yesterday and I knew shots were going to start falling sooner or later.  It makes it a lot easier for me to make shots when I know my teammates are behind me.”

On if he sees more intensity in opponents this year:

“Every team we play, they’re bringing their ‘A’ game whether it’s here in Nashville or away.  It’s out that we have a special team this year and we’re trying to accomplish big things.  Teams are going to come out and give us their best.  They’re going to put together 40-minute games and make it hard for us.  We have to come out and have what Alex Gordon calls a killer mentality — we’ve got to put games away early.

Forward Julian Terrell:

On not putting teams away:

“I think we got up and kind of got lackadaisical during the game.  We got up 17 and put it on cruise control because we thought the game was over with.  But they played hard and fought the whole game.  It happens to the best of teams, but it’s not something that we want to have happen to us and tonight it did.”

On Coach Stallings saying there’s something missing:

“I think he means us playing the game for 40 minutes.  I think throughout our eight games, we’ve yet to play a full 40 minutes; I wouldn’t even so much as give us 30 minutes.  That’s probably what he means.  If we get that taken care of and pick up our defense, the offense is obviously working for us; once we play the full game, we’ll be a lot better.”
