Team Record and Series Notes:
* This was Vanderbilt’s 15th all-time appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Commodores fell to 10-16 all-time in the tourney.
* Northwestern is making its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. The Wildcats will face top-seeded Gonzaga in the next round.
* Northwestern improved to 24-11 with the win. Vanderbilt finishes the season with a 19-16 record.
* Thursday’s victory was Northwestern’s first win in the series against the Commodores. Vanderbilt came into the day with a 3-0 edge in the series.
Player Notes:
* Matthew Fisher-Davis led Vanderbilt with 22 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the floor. He spearheaded a Vanderbilt rally in the second half, as the Commodores erased a double-digit deficit and took the lead in the closing minutes before Northwestern escaped with the win.
* Luke Kornet added 14 points before fouling out in what proved to be his final game with the Commodores. It was Kornet’s 26th game in double figures this season.
* Riley LaChance was the third Commodore in double figures, finishing with 12.
Team Notes
* The Commodores, who led the SEC in 3-point percentage (37.7 percent coming into the game), went 9-of-26 from behind the arc (34.6 percent). Vanderbilt was 5-of-16 from long range (31.3 percent) in the second half.
* Vanderbilt’s Luke Kornet hit a 3-pointer early in the first half that extended the Commodores’ 3-point streak to 999 games. Vanderbilt has made one 3-pointer in every game since the 3-point line was implemented.
* Vanderbilt shot just 38 percent from the floor in the loss. The Commodores were 9-of-26 (34.6 percent) in the first half and 12-of-29 (41.4 percent) in the second half.
* Vanderbilt lost the rebounding battle, 37-30, and was outscored in the paint, 32-20.
*The Commodores committed 10 turnovers; Northwestern had 12.
