Vanderbilt Men’s Soccer Defeats Evansville, 1-0, In Overtime 10/12/2005 Evansville, Ind. – Josh Medcalf’s goal in the 102nd minute pushed Vanderbilt to a 1-0 win overtime win over Evansville in Missouri Valley Conference soccer action Wednesday night at Black Beauty Field. The Commodores moved to 6-4-1 overall and 1-0-1 in MVC play, while the Purple Aces fell to 2-9-1 on the year and 0-2 in league action. Medcalf’s goal, his third of the year, came from five yards out in the middle of the field off of a cross by Patrick Murray. Eric Steen was also credited with an assist as he started the scoring attack. Vanderbilt controlled most of the game with 17 shots, including 10 on goal, while Evansville had only one shot on line in 12 attempts. VU also held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks. It was the second consecutive shutout for the Commodores and goalkeeper Kenny Schoeni who now has four shutouts this season and six in his career.
