Pregame Notes
-Starters: For the fourth consecutive game, the Commodores started seniors Christian Foggie and Jasmine Lister, sophomore Heather Bowe, and freshmen Rebekah Dahlman and Marqu’es Webb.
-This game marked the first-ever meeting between Vanderbilt and Marquette.
-Coming into today, Marquette had scored 90 points or more in their first two games this season, while the Commodores had averaged 84.6 points per game through their first three games this season.
Game Notes
-Vanderbilt led at halftime by a score of 47-36.
-The Commodores made 24-of-26 free throws (92.3%) in the first half, the most free throws attempted and made in the first half this season. The commodores finished shooting 82.5 percent (33-40) on free throws for the game.
-Despite the Commodores shooting 45 percent (9-20) from the field and 41.7 percent (5-12) on three-pointers in the first half, the Commodores only shot 35.7 percent (10-28) in the second half and 9.1 percent (1-11) from behind the arc.
-Marquette only shot 38.7 percent (12-31) and 38.5 percent (5-13) on three-pointers in the first half, but shot 52 percent (13-25) in the second half and 42.9 percent (3-7) from behind the arc.
-Vanderbilt shot 39.6 percent (19-48) and 26.1 percent (6-23) on three-pointers for the whole game, while Marquette shot 44.6 percent (25-56) and 40 percent (8-20) on three-pointers for the game.
-After Marquette began the second half going on an 11-2 run through the first five minutes, Christina Foggie made a layup with 13:42 left to push the Commodores lead back to eight.
-Marquette tied the game at 67 apiece at the 5:23 mark with two free throws and then took the lead with 4:44 remaining, 69-67.
-The Commodores tied up the score again at 69 apiece with a layup by Jasmine Lister at 4:33 left in the game.
– After a quick jumper by Marquette with 4:09 left, Vanderbilt tied up the game at 71 with 3:48 remaining.
– The Golden Eagles took the lead with a 3-pointer at the 2:05 mark, and then went up by three with a layup at 1:07.
-Vanderbilt came within one point with a layup by Marqu’es Webb, who was also fouled on the shot at 57.2 seconds left in the game but did not make her free throw.
-Marquette hit a jumper with 42 seconds left, to go up again by three. After grabbing two defensive rebounds, the Golden Eagles made 4 of 6 free throws to ice the game in the final seconds.
Individual Notes
-Christina Foggie scored 19 first half points, scoring a total of 30, which is a season high for her and Foggie’s second 30 point game in her career. Additionally, Foggie now has moved up to No. 24 on Vanderbilt’s all-time career scoring list with 1,220 points, right behind teammate Jasmine Lister who has 1,226 career points after today.
-Christina Foggie went 16-for-18 at the free-throw line, which is tied for second most free throws attempted in a single game by a Vanderbilt player and is the third-most free throws made in a single game by a Vanderbilt player.
-Jasmine Lister had 3 assists, which moves her up to No. 6 on Vanderbilt’s all-time career assists list at 460 assists.
-Kylee Smith picked up her 5th foul with 5:23 left in the game.
