The second round of the UCF Challenge at Eagle Creek Golf Club is in the books, and the Commodores are in second place in the team standings with a total of 17-under par, 559 (277-282), two strokes back of leader Virginia. Senior Kendall Martindale and junior Jennifer Hahn are Vanderbilt’s top individuals after two rounds, with each having a total of seven-under, 137, which puts them in a tie for fourth.
Vanderbilt fired a six-under, 282, in their round on Monday, with Hahn leading the way with a five-under par, 67. Other counters for the Commodores were freshman Cindy Ha, who carded a two-under 70, Martindale, who shot a one-under 71, and freshman Alexandra Farnsworth, who ended Monday with a two-over, 74.
Other scores for Vanderbilt Monday came from junior Morgan Ransom, who carded a four-over, 76, and sophomore Kate Sborov, who shot a one-under, 71. Sborov is playing as an individual.
“I was really proud of the effort today and the way the girls hung in there on a day when the putts didn’t drop as easily as they did in the first round,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “Jenn got off to a great start and was five-under through 11. I like how Cindy fought her way back with five birdies after a tough start. The final round is going to be a lot of fun and a good test for us this early in the season. Obviously with the way Virginia, Tulane and UCF played today, it’s up for grabs tomorrow. We’ll again focus on what we can control and hopefully come out ready to compete.”
Martindale and Hahn each trail leaders Silvia Garces of Tulane, Lauren Coughlin of Virginia, and Chonlada Chayanun of Iowa State by one shot heading into the final round, which concludes Tuesday.
