The final images of the 2013-14 academic year in NCAA sports will forever be of Vanderbilt’s baseball team dog-piling in the middle of TD Ameritrade Park and accepting the national championship trophy.

With the college baseball season coming to an end, the year in college athletics was officially over, and it couldn’t have ended any more sweeter for Vanderbilt.

On Friday, the collective on-the-field achievements of all NCAA Division I athletics were tabulated one last time with the release of the final Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings.

For a record-extending fifth year in a row, Vanderbilt improved its final standing, finishing 45th overall with 500.75 points. The Commodores were buoyed by a terrific spring season with five teams totaling 337.75 points, including a full 100 points coming for winning the national championship in baseball.

The 100 points received from baseball’s championship vaulted Vanderbilt up seven spots in the standings from 52nd to 45th.

Stanford captured the Directors’ Cup, while Florida finished second.

Vanderbilt also fared exceptionally well in the final standings for the Capital One Cup, which were recently released. The Capital One Cup was introduced in 2011 and utilizes a different scoring format from the Directors’ Cup. The cup keeps separate standings for men’s and women’s sports, awarding separate titles. On the men’s side, the Commodores finished in ninth with all of its points coming via the baseball national championship. Vanderbilt finished 55th on the women’s side with points coming from bowling and women’s golf.
