-Vanderbilt improved to 2-0 on the season with the 98-62 win over Gardner-Webb Monday night.
-The Commodores are 1-0 all-time against the Runnin’ Bulldogs.
-Head coach Kevin Stallings is now 438-269 overall as a head coach and has a 315-206 record as Vanderbilt’s head coach. Stallings’ record at Memorial Gym moves to 214-63 and 132-15 in non-conference home games.
-Commodore starters for the game were Kornet, Baldwin, Fisher Davis, LaChance and Jones.
-Vanderbilt trailed for the first time this season – Gardner Webb led the Commodores for 2:42 and the game was tied for :47.
Team Notes
-The Commodores shot 58.2% from the floor against Gardner-Webb, their best percentage of the young season. Vanderbilt was also 47.8% from beyond-the-arc and 71.9% from the charity stripe.
-VU earned 35 points off of the Runnin’ Bulldogs 19 turnovers.
-Four Commodores scored in double digits; Kornet (10), Jones (10), LaChance (14) and Roberson (18).
-Vanderbilt outrebounded Gardner-Webb, 35-25, and outscored the Runnin’ Bulldogs, 13-5, on second chance points.
-The Commodores had 19 assists on 32 made baskets and committed only 10 turnovers. Vanderbilt had five blocks and nine steals.
Individual Notes:
-Jeff Roberson set six career-highs on the night: points (18), rebounds (8), field goals made (6), field goals attempted (8), free throws made (5), and free throws attempted (6).
-Damian Jones’ 10-point effort marked his 50th career game in double figures. Jones also had three blocks, and moved into fourth-place all-time past Commodore great Julian Terrell on the Vanderbilt career blocks list with 117.
-LaChance, along with his 13 points, added six assists, four rebounds, and three steals. He was also 3-5 from beyond-the-arc.
-Matthew Fisher Davis tied his career-high of two steals.
-Noal Cressler tied his career-high in assists at four.
-Phillip McGloin scored his first points as a Commodore on a made three pointer.
-Freshman Joe Toye topped his career-high with eight points.
