The Commodores set a program attendance record with 4,960 fans at Memorial

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt volleyball middle Jackie Moore recorded 13 kills on 21 attempts with zero errors for a .619 hitting percentage on Friday night at Memorial Gymnasium.

To close out the reinstated Commodore volleyball team’s home schedule, Vanderbilt (6-16, 2-11 SEC) set a program attendance record with 4,960 fans at Memorial.

Vandy fell 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-20) to No. 19 Tennessee (17-5, 8-4 SEC) as the Volunteers hit .449 on the day.

Moore’s 13 kills led the Dores’ offensive efforts, followed by nine kills from Mia Soerensen, who hit at a .368 clip. Vandy’s setters Isabella Bareford and Taryn DeWese contributed 19 and 13 assists, respectively.

Tennessee’s Hayden Kubik led the charge with 18 kills. Starr Williams also recorded double-digit kills, totaling 10 vs. the Commodores. Leading the Vols’ defense was Carolina Kerr who was credited with six of Tennessee’s seven blocks. Kerr also registered 42 assists. Gulce Guctekin registered a team-high 11 digs.

The Volunteers took a 1-0 lead in the match as the Dores fell, 25-17, in set 1. Tennessee hit .441 in the opening set, while holding the Commodores to a .171 hitting efficiency. Moore and Soerensen each recorded four kills in set 1.

Vanderbilt and Tennessee went back and forth in set 2. Both teams struggled with errors, but the Volunteers closed the set on a 3-0 run to win the second set by a score of 25-22. Moore continued to be a force for the Dores on offense, recording six kills.

Tennessee won the third set by a score of 25-20 to secure the sweep.

The Commodores hit the road for their final matches of the regular season, playing at Alabama on Friday and at Mississippi State on Sunday, Nov. 16.
