Vanderbilt Battles No. 5 Florida Saturday 1/26/2006
Vanderbilt travels to No. 5 Florida Saturday for a 12 p.m. CT tip off. The game will be televised by Jefferson Pilot Sports. The Commodores (12-4, 3-2 Southeastern Conference) are coming off an 80-52 home win over Mississippi State last Saturday. Five Vanderbilt players scored in double figures led by DeMarre Carroll’s 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting. Shan Foster and Derrick Byars posted 13 points each. Dan Cage contributed 11 points while Mario Moore added 10. Vanderbilt has posted four or more players in double figures in every SEC game. Four Commodores average 10 or more points on the year led by Foster’s 16.3 points per game. The sophomore leads the SEC in 3-pointers made per game (4.2) and 3-point shooting (56.8 percent). Florida (17-2, 3-2 SEC) dropped a 68-62 decision at South Carolina on Wednesday. The Gators are led by Taurean Green’s 14.1 points per contest. Florida has won 18 consecutive home games. Vanderbilt leads the all-time series 59-50. Florida has won each of the last four meetings, including both contests last season. A win at Florida on Saturday would give the Commodores road wins at Kentucky and Florida in the same season for the first time in school history. |
