Vanderbilt Battles Appalachian State in Final Game Before Holiday Break

For the second year in a row, Vanderbilt plays its final game before the Holiday break against visiting Appalachian State, Wednesday, Dec. 22 at Memorial Gymnasium. Tip-off is set for 8:06 p.m. CT. The game will be televised by Comcast Sports Southeast (CSS).

Game Notes

Vanderbilt (6-4) leads the Southeastern Conference in 3-point shooting at 42.5 percent. The Commodores made a season-high 15 3-pointers — one shy of the school record — in their 86-54 win over Central Michigan on Monday. Reserve guard Dan Cage scored a career-high 18 points to lead all scorers. Cage, along with guards Mario Moore and Alex Gordon each drained four 3-pointers each in the victory.

Vanderbilt goes for its 20th consecutive non-conference home win Wednesday against the Mountaineers. The Commodores have won 50 of 53 non-conference home games during the Stallings era and are 120-10 against non-league foes since 1990. VU also has won 21 of its last 23 games overall at Memorial Gym.

Moore leads all Commodore scorers, averaging 15.4 points. Entering play on Tuesday, Moore ranked second in the SEC in 3-point percentage (.556), making 30-of-54 attempts. He was tied for third in 3-pointers per game (3.00). Moore also was listed as seventh in the league, shooting 51.9 percent from the field (54-of-104). He has reached double figures in 15 consecutive games.

Like Vanderbilt, Appalachian State (5-3, 0-1 Southern Conference) is coming off an outstanding 3-point shooting effort. The Mountaineers also hit 15 treys — a school record — in their last outing, a 98-67 victory over visiting Milligan College. APSU is led in scoring by guard Noah Brown (14.5) and forward Chris McFarland (14.4).

Vanderbilt won the only other meeting in the series, a 63-48 decision, on Dec. 22, 2003. Moore scored a game-high 19 points in the win.
