Vanderbilt Head Coach Melanie Balcomb
On the first half:
“Offensively, we were living and dying off of Christina Foggie’s 3’s instead of executing our offense. There were too many outside shots that we expected to go in.”

On not getting rebounds:“It’s because we cannot recover from our mistakes. It’s not about making mistakes it’s about recovering from them. There’s a lack of mental toughness.”

On Marqu’es Webb:
“She’s been struggling. You can see it with her body language. Her back has been hurting and she’s been using her body to get fouls, and not having that passion and energy we need. But it’s not just Marqu’es, it’s been everybody. Kind of a very inconsistent accountability.”

On the bright spots of the game:
Kylee Smith. She did everything we asked, she was fearless and relentless, didn’t hang her head at mistakes, and was aggressive. I think Heather (Bowe) did a good job with some of the changes we made. They were both the bright spot.”

Vanderbilt Guard Christina Foggie
On what was going on in the first half that made offensive struggle:
“I think, like Jasmine (Lister) said, not getting stops on defense really made it tight on offense. It’s happened earlier this season and we wanted to try and fix it, but that’s one of the main things we’ve tried to focus on is not letting our defense dictate our offense and we did exactly that. So we just tried to come back with fire in the second half and we still couldn’t get that defensive stop when we needed it.”
On losing six out of last eight SEC games:
“Its’ really just ending the season on our terms, we really don’t want to end the season on a down note. We have two choices and we want to choose to fight back and end the season in the positive way we can. It’s just about bouncing back from this loss.”

On Thursday night being Senior Night and if it changes view of that game:
“No, I mean I think my main focus for me personally is just bouncing back from today and fighting extra hard. I mean Senior Night has nothing to do with it, I think it’s all about today’s loss and that gut feeling you don’t want to have again. Just fighting back for Thursday’s game.”

Vanderbilt Guard Jasmine Lister
On keys to the game that the team was not able to accomplish:
“Definitely defensive awareness was one of our keys to the game and I don’t think we as a whole team were determined to get a stop. I think just being more consistent on defense was something we really needed to do.”

On the turnovers in bunches:
“I think we were just being a little too loose with the ball and weren’t necessarily stepping to our passes and they were just getting in our passing lanes. They knew what play we were going to run, we just didn’t adjust.”

On losing six out of last eight SEC games:
“I guess you could call it a kind of wake-up call, and the fact that we just need to fight back. We can’t just lay down. We have two more regular season SEC games and it will only do us bad for us to throw in the towel. We’re going to fight back and it’s definitely a wake-up call.”

Alabama Head Coach Kristy Curry
On the game:
“I’m really proud of our team today. We showed a lot of character down the stretch, we made a few more plays, and we played a great Vanderbilt team that’s so well coached.

“We just made a few more plays, and that’s the way the game goes sometimes. It’s about making a few more plays and making the fewest mistakes. “

On Second Half Changes:
“Well, a few things. We had to come out and make sure we continued to be a little more aggressive; reverse the basketball inside out. We made some plays inside that really opened some things up outside. We were fortunate to have some easy baskets in transition.

“I thought the difference in the second half was we gave up 10 offensive rebounds in the first half and only gave up four in the second. So they were getting second and third chances.

“Foggie had eight threes (attempts) in the first half. We talked for three days about how she’s one of the best shooters in the country. She only got three or four in the second.

“We did a better job on the glass and limiting the three-point looks.”
