TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Vanderbilt’s Luke Churchwell and Tyla Lumley led the men’s and women’s cross country teams to fifth and fourth place respective finishes at the Crimson Classic at the Harry Pritchett Running Course Friday morning.
Churchwell finished 17th overall with a time of 24:28.8. It is the second time this season that he has paced the Commodore men. For the second meet in a row, Sam Darmanie was Vanderbilt’s second finisher, coming in 41st overall and fifth among freshmen with a time of 25:03.2. Michael Skora was the third Dore to cross the finish line, clocking 25:07.7. Brady Bliven and Mitchel Drees followed with times of 25:20.2 and 25.26.0 to round out the Commodores’ scoring performers.
On the women’s side, Lumley registered a time of 19:59.3 to place eighth. Claire Petersen came in second among Vanderbilt runners and 10th overall with a time of 20:08.7. Bria Bennis was next to cross the finish line for the Dores, turning in a 15th-place finish and a time of 20:21.1. Additional scorers for Vanderbilt included Lily Kriegel, who clocked 21:07.5, and Betsy Jepkemei, who had a time of 21:22.8 in her Commodore debut.
Up next, Vanderbilt heads to Knoxville, Tennessee, for the SEC Cross Country Championships on Oct. 31.
