WEST POINT, Miss. – Vanderbilt finished round one of The Ally at Old Waverly just five strokes shy of the top-5 Friday behind host Mississippi State.
Vandy (+8) concluded the day 10th overall at 296 and 18 strokes behind leader Alabama (-10) at 278. The Crimson Tide’s Benedetta Moresco led the way with her 9-under-par 63 effort.
“Today certainly wasn’t our best but I sure do love these girls,” said head coach Greg Allen.
Louise Yu, competing as an individual, is tied for 13th after a 2-under-par 70 performance.
“I will practice what I preach to them and that is to have patience,” Allen said.
Virginie Ding (E) tied for 21st, Auston Kim (+2) and Celina Sattelkau (+2) both tied for 41st, Tess Davenport (+4) tied for 52nd, and Ariel Yu (+5) tied for 58th.
Vanderbilt made 11 birdies with Kim finding five on the day.
“I know it’s a matter of time before we get it going in the right direction.”
