Tim McClements Named MVC Coach of the Year

Nashville, Tenn. – Vanderbilt men’s soccer coach Tim McClements was named Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year by a vote of his peers, the league office announced today.
McClements, in his fourth season in Nashville, guided the Commodores to a third-place conference finish, the school’s highest ever in the MVC. VU is 9-6-2 on the season and has posted its first winning record in six years. He is the first Vanderbilt coach to ever receive the award.
The Missouri Valley also released its all-conference squads with senior forward John Krause headlining the Vanderbilt contingent as a first-team selection. Krause, a second-team pick in 2004, led the Commodores with 12 goals and 26 points this season, including four game-winning goals.
Sophomore midfielder Joe Germanese and freshman midfielder Brian Mascarenhas earned second-team plaudits, while a trio of seniors: midfielder Pat Ryan, goalkeeper Kenny Schoeni and defender Brady Hyde garnered honorable-mention status.
Germanese was second on the team in goals (six) and points (15). Mascarenhas and Ryan were both instrumental in the team?s ball control success as they showcased their possession skills in the midfield.
Schoeni and Hyde were both key factors in the Commodores defense tying a school record with eight shutouts this year.
Mascarenhas and forward Conor Neusel were named to the MVC All-Freshman team as well.
The Commodores will play Creighton in the Missouri Valley tournament semifinals tomorrow at 5 p.m. The winner advances to the finals, where they will play either Bradley or Drake, on Sunday at 1 p.m.
