FORT WORTH, Texas — Vanderbilt women’s golf sits tied for 12th place at the Charles Schwab Women’s Collegiate after Monday’s 36 holes. The Commodores fired a 14-over first round and a 7-over second round to end the first day at 21-over-par.

Ava Merrill carded a 2-over-par 74 to start her day. She then picked up three birdies on the back nine of her second round to finish the day at 1-over. Merrill is tied for 15th place individually.

Tillie Claggett, tied for 20th, notched a 5-over-par opening round before holing five birdies in her second round to reach a 2-over total through 36.

“It was not our best stuff this morning,” said head coach Greg Allen. “But I’m proud of Tillie and Ava, and how they carried us this afternoon.”

Angelina Tolentino shot a 1-under 71 to begin her tournament and followed it with a second-round 76. Sara Im had a 76 and a 75 on Monday. Lynn Lim went for a 79 and 77.

“It was nice to see Angelina play well this morning,” said Allen. “She just wasn’t as sharp in the afternoon round. It was good to see Sara trending in the right direction after a couple rough tournaments. She’s still got work to do but her game definitely looked a lot better.”

Vanderbilt is tied with Kentucky in 12th place. Oregon and Wake Forest lead the pack at even-par totals.

“Unfortunately, our Achilles’ heel continues to be around the greens and how we continue to find ways to waste shots,” said Allen. “If we can come out tomorrow and clean that up, I think we can move up the leaderboard.”

Vanderbilt will tee off for Tuesday’s final 18 at 8:30 a.m. CT with Texas and Oregon.
