Through 36 in Puerto Rico

Vanderbilt, Rudisill in eighth place at Puerto Rico Classic

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico –– Vanderbilt women’s golf opened the first 36 holes of the Puerto Rico Classic on Sunday at 8-under-par. The Commodores shot even-par in the morning round and 8-under-par in the afternoon. The Dores sit in eighth place with 18 holes to play.

Elizabeth Rudisill leads the Commodores at 5-under-par after posting a 1-over par first round and a 6-under-par second round. The freshman is in eighth place individually after holing nine birdies on Sunday.

Ava Merrill and Tillie Claggett are both tied for 34th individually at 1-under-par. Merrill carded a 1-under 71 and an even-par 72 on Sunday, while Claggett shot a 2-over 74 and a 3-under 69.

“The start was a little slower for us than I thought it might be,” said head coach Greg Allen. “We definitely looked rusty, and we weren’t very sharp around the greens in the first round. But thanks to Rudy and Tillie, they helped us make a move in the second round,” said Allen.

Angelina Tolentino is even through two rounds with a 70 and 74, and Sara Im is 4-over after a 73 and 75. Competing as an individual, Lynn Lim is even after Sunday with two even-par performances.

“There’s a much better chance that we will be able to finish the tournament tomorrow morning before the heavy rains move in,” said Allen. “If we can get everybody clicking, we can move up the leaderboard and go home with a decent finish.”

Vanderbilt sits one stroke behind Kansas State and Michigan State. Arkansas leads the field at 22-under par.

The Commodores tee off for Monday’s final round at 6:30 a.m. CT with Kansas State, Michigan State, and Ole Miss. Live scoring for the event can be found HERE.
