Sophomore Kenny Schoeni was named to the Honorable Mention Team. Krause (Jr., F, 3.40, History, Holliston, Mass.) played in 17 games while starting in 16 and led the team with 27 points, including 12 goals and three assists. His 27 points rank seventh and his 12 goals rank fifth on the Vanderbilt Single Season list. He scored at least one point in 12 games, including eight consecutive games. He scored at least two points in 10 games with a season-high four vs. Northwestern and totaled four-game winning goals. He was named to the Vanderbilt PUMA Classic and Davidson adidas Classic All-Tournament Teams. He earned MVC Player of the Week honors Sept. 20 after scoring three goals, including a game-winner vs. nationally-ranked Memphis leading the Commodores to an undefeated week. Richard (Jr., M, 3.887, Engineering Science & Financial Economics, Sugarland, Texas) was the team co-captain for the second consecutive season. He played in all 18 games and scored from his midfield position on his only shot on goal of the season vs. Drury. He also collected an assist in that game. He helped lead the Commodores to their best start since 1998 and VU’s seven wins are more than twice as many as the previous two seasons combined. Richard was an honorable mention selection last season. Schoeni (So., GK, 3.657, Interdisciplinary Neuroscience (Pre-Medicine), Cincinnati, Ohio), played in 17 games while starting in 15. He allowed 31 goals for a 2.0 goals against average. He played 12 complete games and collected two shutouts and did not allow a goal in six appearances. He was named to the Davidson adidas Classic All-Tournament Team. This is the first time in school history that three Commodores were named to the Scholar-Athlete Team and the first time that two student-athletes were named to the first team. Travis Weeks was the last Commodore to be named to the first team in 1999. A total of 44 student-athletes were nominated for the Valley’s scholar-athlete team. Nominees must be starters or important reserves with at least a 3.00 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.00 scale). 2004 Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athletes Honorable Mention |
