Third-Place Finish

Dores take down Louisiana Tech in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. — No. 3 Vanderbilt finished third at Sacred Heart’s Destination Orlando after closing out the weekend with a win over No. 9 Louisiana Tech.

“Sunday was a better effort from a week ago. We competed really well, jumped out to a lead on Jacksonville State, but made a couple errors that let them back in the match,” head coach John Williamson said. “I think Avery [Domaguin] and Katelyn [Abigania] were really good today and made some quality shots when we needed to have them. We get a little time to work on some things before we go to Fort Worth in two weeks, so I’ll be looking forward to the continued progress the next time out.”

The Commodores defeated No. 6 Arkansas State 1,019-869 in the final Baker match Sunday morning to earn the 4-seed in bracket play. Vandy then faced top-seeded Jacksonville State in the semifinals, taking the top-ranked Gamecocks the distance before falling in Game 7.

Vanderbilt won the first game with seven strikes in eight attempts to erase an open. A tie in the second game put Vandy up 1.5-.5 before Jacksonville State won the next three games. Game 6 went to the Dores, 190-172, but the Gamecocks edged out the win with a 213-182 advantage in the final game.

Fighting for third place against Louisiana Tech, Vanderbilt split the first two games with the Bulldogs before rattling off three straight wins to claim third place and finish the weekend with a 10-3 record.

Katelyn Abigania’s top 10 individual finish in Orlando marks her second consecutive weekend with a top 10 finish to start the 2025-26 campaign.

Next up for Vanderbilt is a trip to the Lone Star State as the Commodores will compete in the Bulldog Classic on Nov. 7-9 in Fort Worth, Texas.
