Facility Overview
The Lummis Family Tennis Center is a private varsity athletics facility made available for public use through a membership program. While we strive to provide as much access to our members as possible, Vanderbilt Men’s and Women’s Tennis team practices and matches take priority in the court schedule.
We currently offer:
- Five indoor courts
- 12 outdoor courts coming Spring 2026
- Outdoor court construction cam available online

- All membership renewals require a card on file. Memberships are sold on an annual basis and are non-refundable.
- A membership is required to book courts. We do not offer contract time.
- Members are strongly encouraged to make reservations through Court Reserve and may book up to 5 days in advance for up to 2 hours per day.
- All membership inquires should be directed to Madison Pinnell- Madison.Pinnell@Vanderbilt.edu.
- Student membership is free and must be activated in Court Reserve.
- A valid Vanderbilt ID showing current undergraduate or graduate status must be presented at the front desk for account approval.
- Students may make reservations up to 2 days in advance for up to 1 hour per day.
Membership Types
- Community Member – Any individual not affiliated with Vanderbilt.
- Vanderbilt Affiliate – Faculty, Staff, VUMC, Alumni.
- Individual +1 – A family member living full-time in the primary member’s household.
- Undergraduate students are not eligible.
- Graduate students may purchase at the affiliate rate.
- Family Membership – Parents and their dependents living together in one household (up to 5 members).
- More than 5 members require an additional fee.
- Undergraduate students are not eligible; graduate students may purchase at the affiliate rate.
Indoor Court Fees
- Members: $28/hour
- Students: $18/hour
- Ball Machine: $10/visit + court time
Outdoor Court Fees
- Our 12 outdoor courts are scheduled to be completed by March 2026.
- There is no fee associated with outdoor court time.
- The upper bank of courts is reserved exclusively for the Men’s and Women’s Tennis teams and Tennis Center members.
- Students are permitted to use only the lower bank of outdoor courts.
- Students are not permitted to use the upper bank under any circumstances.
Court Availability & Closures
The facility will be closed on home match days for both Men’s and Women’s Tennis, as well as during visiting team practice times leading up to matches.
Hours of Operation- Spring 2026
Monday: 7 a.m. – 2 p.m.; 5:30 p.m. – 10 p.m.
Tuesday: 5:30 p.m. – 10 p.m.
Wednesday: 7 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.; 6 p.m. – 10 p.m.
Thursday: Noon – 2 p.m.; 5:30 p.m. – 10 p.m.
Friday: 6 p.m. – 10 p.m.
Saturday: Noon – 6 p.m.
Sunday: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Hours are subject to change based on needs of Men’s and Women’s Tennis team needs.
Whenever courts can be made available outside of these times, every effort is made to do so. The most up-to-date court schedule can always be found in Court Reserve. To help keep you informed, you can expect bi-weekly emails from Madison Pinnell with updated court availability.
Guest Policy
- Members may bring guests for $20 per visit.
- Students may not bring guests under any circumstances.
Cancellation Policy
- There is a 15-minute grace period for court reservations.
- If the member has not arrived in 15 minutes, the court will be released, and the full court fee will still apply.
- Members and students are expected to cancel reservations at least 6 hours in advance.
- Failure to cancel at least 6 hours prior will result in a charge for the full reserved court time.
Parking
Parking will be available to Tennis Center members on floors 8-10 in the 25th Avenue Garage via the Highland Avenue entrance. A Tennis Center hangtag must be displayed on your dashboard when using the garage. If you do not have a hangtag, please contact Madison Pinnell.

General Tennis Center Policies

- Check-In Procedure
- All members must check in at the front desk and pay any associated court fees upon arrival.
- Proper Footwear Required
- Only non-marking court shoes are allowed. Running shoes are not permitted. Staff reserve the right to deny court access if inappropriate footwear is worn. We also offer court shoes to rent, free of charge.
- Food & Beverages
- Only water is permitted on the courts. No food, sports drinks, or other beverages are allowed on court surfaces.
- Instruction Policy
- Only Vanderbilt University–approved individuals may conduct lessons at the Lummis Family Tennis Center. Unauthorized coaching or private lessons by non-approved individuals are strictly prohibited.
- Court Access & Etiquette:
- Court access may begin no more than 10 minutes priorto your scheduled start time, and only if the court is unoccupied.
- Courts must be vacated promptly at the scheduled end time.
- Please maintain appropriate tennis etiquette when entering and exiting court areas to avoid disrupting others.
