Senior forward Jeffery Taylor claimed the team’s first SEC Player of the Week award of season on Monday after two Commodore wins last week over Tennessee and Middle Tennessee State. Taylor, who garnered one other Player of the Week award as a sophomore and one Freshman of the Week honor in 2009, averaged 20.0 points and 7.5 rebounds in the two games.
Taylor is putting together quite the senior season – he is second in the SEC in scoring behind fellow teammate John Jenkins in all games (17.3) and SEC games only (17.0), and also ranks fourth in the SEC in field-goal percentage (.536). He has made more field goals than any other player in the SEC (134), and also leads the league in 3-point FG percentage in SEC games only at 68.2%.
Throw his offensive output in with his lockdown defense on the other end of the floor, and Taylor is in the mix, along with the SEC’s leading scorer, Jenkins, for earning SEC Player of the Year honors.
Top 25
Vanderbilt reentered the Associated Press Top 25 this week at #25, and the Commodores are still receiving votes in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll. VU’s last appearance in the AP Poll was when they were #25 prior to the Indiana State game on December 17.
