Tanner Tabbed National Player of the Week

Guard garners recognition from Basketball Writers Association

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tyler Tanner was named an Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week by the USBWA on Tuesday. Tanner is one of five players recognized for his performance in the past week.

Tanner had a career day in the win over No. 13 Alabama, scoring 29 points with seven assists and four steals. He is the first player to score at least 25 points with seven assists and four steals in a top 15 matchup since Trae Young in 2018. In the last 30 years, only Chris Paul, Mike Bibby and DeAndre Kane accomplished the feat as well.

Against LSU, Tanner scored 20 to run his double-digit streak to 16-straight games to open the season. He added three assists and three steals in the win to help Vandy match its best start in program history.

Tanner is averaging 17.3 points per game and ranks 12th nationally in total steals (42) and steals per game (2.63) while carrying a 3.0 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Tanner and the No. 10/8 Commodores return to action on Wednesday night with an 8 p.m. tipoff at Texas on ESPN2.
