Tanner Crowned SEC Player of the Week

Sophomore dropped career-high 29 points in win over No. 13 Alabama

NASHVILLE, Tenn. Vanderbilt men’s basketball sophomore Tyler Tanner was named the SEC Player of the Week for his performance in victories over Alabama and LSU.

Tanner dropped a career-high 29 points in the top 15 showdown against Alabama. He also added seven assists and four steals to lead the Commodores to the midweek win. Tanner is the first player to score at least 25 points with seven assists and four steals in a top 15 matchup since Trae Young in 2018. In the last 30 years, only Chris Paul, Mike Bibby and DeAndre Kane accomplished the feat as well.

The guard continued his streak of double figure scoring with a 20-point game against LSU on Saturday. He added three assists and three steals in the win to help Vandy match its best start in program history.

Tanner has scored in double digits all 16 games this season and is averaging 17.3 points per game. He ranks 12th nationally in total steals (42) and steals per game (2.63) while carrying a 3.0 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Tanner and the No. 10/8 Commodores return to action on Wednesday night with an 8 p.m. tipoff at Texas on ESPN2.
