Tanner Collects USWBA All-America Honorable Mention

Guard adds second All-America recognition

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The U.S. Basketball Writers Association named Tyler Tanner an honorable mention All-American, giving the guard his second All-America recognition in as many days.

Tanner is the first Commodore to earn All-America honors from the USBWA and the first to earn recognition from multiple outlets since Shan Foster in 2008. He was previously named to the Associated Press honorable mention squad on Tuesday.

The sophomore becomes the 10th Commodore to earn multiple All-America selections. His second honor marks the 46th selection to All-America teams by 14 different Commodores.

Tanner enters the NCAA Tournament averaging a team-leading 19.1 points, 5.1 assists and 2.4 steals per game. He is the only player in the country to average better than 19/5/2 on the year. His 649 points rank seventh in Vandy single season history while he’s also set the school record with 81 steals.

The Commodores and Tanner begin their March Madness run Thursday at 2:15 p.m. against McNeese. The game will air on TruTV.
