Tanner Adds AP First Team All-SEC Recognition

Guard adds another postseason honor

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Sophomore Tyler Tanner garnered his second First Team All-SEC recognition in as many days as the Associated Press named the standout guard to its top team on Tuesday.

Tanner is the 29th AP First Team All-SEC selection for the Commodores and the first since Scotty Pippen Jr. to collect top billing from both the AP and coaches. The guard averaged 21.5 points, 5.5 assists and 2.3 steals per game in SEC action, becoming the first player to do so in at least the past 30 seasons of league action.

The Brentwood native is one steal away from matching the Commodores’ single season record of 77 set by James Strong in 1998-99. Tanner is just 12 points away from entering Vanderbilt’s top 10 single seasons in program history and 18 assists shy of the school record.

Tanner is the only player in the country this season to average better than 19 points, five assists and two steals. He’s also the only Commodore to ever reach those numbers in the same season.

Vanderbilt and Tanner will open the SEC Tournament at Bridgestone Arena on Friday in a quarterfinal matchup at approximately 2:30 p.m.
