The new Finan Family Playground at the Susan Gray School for Children was dedicated during a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday afternoon during Peabody’s homecoming/reunion activities.

The playground was made possible by Tom and Mary K. Finan, the hard work of their Vanderbilt daughter Kelly and many generous donors that included Vanderbilt Student Athletics.

Beyond the department’s cash contribution, basketball star Shan Foster and coach Kevin Stallings were also involved in the completion of this project as honorary fund-raising chairs. Foster is a good friend of Kelly Finan and he and his coach attended an event after last year’s Georgia Tech basketball game.

David Williams, an advocate for the project, took part in Friday’s dedication ceremony.

The playground is the first barrier-free, fully accessible playground for preschoolers ages 3-5 at the School. The design for the new playground includes wheelchair accessible swings, a central fort structure, two motor skill learning centers, rockers, garden boxes, a play station, and an outdoor classroom.
