There was a time when achieving a 3.0 academic year GPA among student-athletes was not a regular occurrence. Today, the feat has become the norm. For the 10th straight academic year, Vanderbilt’s student-athletes posted a combined fall and spring semester GPA of 3.0 or greater.

During the fall and spring semesters this past year, student-athletes finished with a year GPA of 3.110. The spring semester GPA was 3.112.

In total, 14 of 16 teams finished with year GPAs of 3.0 or greater, including two teams with combined fall and spring semester GPAs over 3.5. In the spring semester alone, five teams had GPAs greater than 3.5.

Notching the highest team GPAs this year were women’s golf (3.553) and men’s cross country (3.583). In the spring semester alone, men’s (3.643) and women’s (3.598) cross country led all teams.

The final academic numbers from the spring come on the heels of the school being recognized by the NCAA for high APR scores. Five teams posted perfect APR scores of 1,000 (bowling, men’s cross country, men’s golf, women’s golf and lacrosse), while the average score of all Vanderbilt teams was 993.2.

Seven of Vanderbilt’s teams had APR scores that led or tied for the lead in their respective conferences. Those teams were:
Baseball (SEC)
Bowling (Southland)
Men’s Cross Country (SEC)
Football (SEC)
Men’s Golf (SEC)
Women’s Golf (SEC)
Lacrosse (Big East)

Football’s score of 990 ranked fifth among FBS programs, while the baseball team’s score of 992 tied for 10th nationally among Power Five conference schools.

Additionally, six teams received NCAA Public Recognition Awards for finishing in the top 10 percent in their sport. Those teams were:
Bowling
Men’s Cross Country
Football
Men’s Golf
Women’s Golf
Lacrosse

Vanderbilt’s streak of having a year GPA of at least 3.0 dates back to the 2006-07 academic year.
