BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Christina Foggie returned to action for the first time since November 24 and helped the Vanderbilt women’s basketball team to a 77-67 victory at Western Kentucky.
Foggie exploded for 16 second half points to help the Commodores (6-3) pull away. The junior finished with 18 for the game. Sophomore guard Kady Schrann contributed 14 points, while Jasmine Lister and Tiffany Clarke added 13 each. Senior Elan Brown pulled down a career-best 13 rebounds, while scoring nine points. Lister also dished out 11 assists, recording the first Vanderbilt double-double of the season.
Western Kentucky (5-2) was led by 15 points apiece from Chastity Gooch and Alexis Govan. Govan pulled down seven rebounds, while Gooch grabbed six. As a team, Western Kentucky committed just nine turnovers in the game.
The Lady Toppers led, 35-34, at the half. Gooch and Govan were leading the charge with 10 and eight points respectively. Schrann was leading the Commodore effort at the intermission with nine points. The game featured eight ties and 11 lead changes, mostly in the first period.
Vanderbilt had an outstanding shooting performance, going 31-49 from the field for 63.3%. The hot shooting helped Vanderbilt overcome 22 turnovers in the contest.
The Commodores opened the second half making their first 11 field goals, including four three-pointers, to help build a lead. The Hilltoppers fought back but could not close the gap to closer than six.
