Senior Lauren Stratton finished in a tie for third and sophomore Kendall Martindale finished in a tie for sixth to lead the Commodores to a fourth-place finish at the Cougar Classic in a field that included 10 of the top 15 teams in the country. As a team, Vanderbilt had a team total of 864 (289-285-290) in three rounds at Yeamans Hall Club in Charleston, S.C.
Stratton had a total of 211 (70-71-70) for the three-round event, while Martindale finished two strokes behind Stratton at 213 (73-71-69). Included in Martindale’s total was a 69 in the final round.
Sophomore Irina Gabasa posted a career-best finish when she carded a 216 (69-71-76) and ended the tournament in a tie for 14th. Freshman Jenny Hahn (79-72-76) and junior Rene Sobolewski (77-75-75) each carded a 227.
Vanderbilt finished a stroke back of Southern Cal for third and 12 strokes back of tournament champion Florida, who fired an 852 (286-279-287).
Florida’s Camilla Hedberg won medalist honors with a final total of 203 (69-66-68), four strokes better than Lindy Duncan of Duke.
The Commodores return to the course in two weeks at its own Mason Rudolph Championship at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn.
