Second Round Results

Vanderbilt senior Lauren Stratton shot another even-par 71 on Saturday in the second round of the Stanford Intercollegiate to pace the Commodores into a tie for fifth heading into the final round on Sunday in Palo Alto, Calif. Vanderbilt has a team total of 579 (289-290), and trail first-place USC by eight strokes.

The Commodores, like they did for most of the round on Friday, led the team leaderboard for most of the day, but had troubles on the last six holes on Saturday. The Vanderbilt counting four totaled nine-over par on those six holes, while leader USC, who played with the Commodores on Saturday, played the same holes at even par.

“It was a great finish by USC today,” said Commodore head coach Greg Allen after the round. “We can’t hang our heads about the poor finish because we have a chance to come out and win tomorrow. We’ve got some work to do, but we’re in position. We’re playing great. It’s fun watching them and being in the hunt. We’ve been leading this thing for two days now. We just need to put together a round from start to finish on Sunday.”

Stratton, with her total of 142 (71-71), is in a tie for eighth overall. Sophomore Kendall Martindale is in a tie for 11th with a 143 (70-73), junior Rene Sobolewski is tied for 25th with a 146 (72-74), freshman Jenny Hahn has a 148 total (75-73, T-36), and sophomore Irina Gabasa has a 154 after two rounds (77-77, T-68).

The Commodores, who are in a tie for fifth with host Stanford and Arizona State, trail third-place Oklahoma State and Oregon State by two strokes, and second-place Washington by four.

Individually, Kyung Kim of Southern Cal leads all individuals with a four-under par, 138.

The final round of the tournament concludes on Sunday.
