Junior Lauren Stratton finished second at this weekend’s Mercedes Benz SEC/Pac 12 Challenge at Holston Hills Country Club between two of the country’s top women’s golf conferences. Stratton now has three top 10’s in the fall season and has not finished lower than 12th in the fall.
As a team, the Commodores finished sixth with a final team score of 887 (296-290-301) in their final tournament of the fall. Alabama won the team title with a one-over par, 865.
Stratton, who shot a 73 on Sunday to finish at three-under par, 213 (68-72-73), ended the tournament two strokes back of Alabama’s Stephanie Meadow, who led wire-to-wire for medalist honors. Stratton had two birdies and three bogeys in her round on Sunday.
Scores were higher across the board today, and according to Stratton, it all had to do with the way the course was set up.
“Pins were really tough today,” said Stratton. They really had them in some difficult spots. The weather was great, so that didn’t really affect things too much. It was just that you’d hit a good shot and you may be putting straight down the hill. Either way, it was a good to way end the fall.”
Freshman Kendall Martindale tied Stratton for the `Dores low round of the day with a 73. Vanderbilt also counted a 75 from senior Marina Alex and an 80 from Anna Leigh Keith.
The Commodores have concluded their fall season, and will pick back up again February 20-21 at the Central District Invitational in Parrish, Fla.
