Two times seems to be the charm for Vanderbilt women’s golf these days, with rising senior Lauren Stratton claiming the 14th Annual Golf Capital of Tennessee Women’s Open championship on Saturday, defeating Mo Martin of Altadena, Cal., by one stroke at the Stonehenge Golf Club in Crossville, Tenn. Stratton claimed the Tennessee Amateur earlier this summer at the Foxland Harbor Golf Course in Gallatin.
Stratton shot a five-under par, 211, at the Open to claim the championship.
Stratton becomes only the second woman to win the Tennessee Amateur and the Tennessee Women’s Open in the same summer, joining teammate Kendall Martindale, who did the double last summer before her freshman campaign with the Commodores. Martindale finished in fourth place at the Open, and lost a semifinal match to Stratton at the Tennessee Amateur.
Stratton, a first-team All-American in her junior season, is one of six returning letterwinners for the Commodores, who finished in 11th place at the NCAA Championship in May.
