Stallings honored at Metro Council Meeting

June 16, 2010

Council member Edith Taylor Langster and other members of the Metro Nashville Council recognized the accomplishments of Vanderbilt University Basketball Coach Kevin Stallings at the June 15th Metro Council Meeting.

This year Coach Stallings, in his 11th season as coach of the Commodores, earned his second SEC Coach of the Year Award after leading the 2009-10 men’s basketball program to a 23-7 overall record, his fifth 20-win season since taking the helm of the team in 1999-00, and a 12-4 mark in SEC competition, the best conference record in his tenure and the best since the 1992-93 campaign.

The team finished the regular season as the 21st team in the nation, according to the Associated Press, and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in four years and for the fourth time since Stallings’ arrival.

“I am extremely pleased and thankful to receive this recognition from the Metro Nashville Council and from Mayor Dean,” said Stallings. “Although I am grateful to receive this recognition, it is truly the accomplishments of our players and the diligence of our assistant coaches that should be celebrated and awarded. Without them, this honor would not be possible.”
