Dr. Caitlyn Mooney
Dr. Caitlyn Mooney joined the Commodore athletics staff as a sports medicine physician in 2023.
She came to Vanderbilt after working in orthopaedics in the sports medicine division at UT Health San Antonio, and she has professional experience working with both University Medical Associates and Parsi Pediatrics in San Antonio as well.
Dr. Mooney has been active in medical education serving as a co-course director at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in the Form and Function module as well as a small group facilitator at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. She also has created a lecture series through the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM) titled the “Early Career Blueprint Series” which aims to offer career guidance for early career sports medicine physicians. Dr. Mooney has been active in numerous professional organizations and has served as the vice-chair of the communications committee for AMSSM, chair of communications for Pediatric Research in Sports Medicine (PRISM), chair of social media for Women in Medicine Society (WIMS) and has been active in additional committees in AMSSM, PRISM, WIMS, and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Dr. Mooney is a 2006 graduate of Notre Dame, and she earned her doctorate degree from Vanderbilt in 2011. She completed her pediatrics residency at Medical University of South Carolina and her sports medicine fellowship at Case Western/Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in Cleveland.
In her free time, Dr. Mooney enjoys walking her dogs on Vanderbilt’s campus and cycling.
