Siakam and Gabasa are VU's recipients of the Brad Davis SEC Award

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southeastern Conference announced the individual recipients of the 2014-15 Brad Davis Community Service Award Thursday. Honored from Vanderbilt were men’s basketball player James Siakam and women’s golfer Irina Gabasa.

The top recipients in the league were Georgia football player Chris Conley and Kentucky tennis player Grace Trimble. Conley and Trimble were chosen by a committee of Faculty Athletics Representatives from SEC universities. Each will receive a $10,000 post-graduate scholarship, provided by the SEC.

Siakam and Gabasa are the recipients of $5,000 post-graduate scholarships, provided by the SEC. Every school in the league has a male and female recipient of the award.

The SEC Community Service Post-Graduate Scholarship is named for former Associate Commissioner Brad Davis.Davis succumbed to cancer on March 2, 2006. He had been a member of the SEC staff since 1988, first serving as an assistant commissioner until 1994 when he was promoted to associate commissioner.

The 12 additional male recipients are: Andrew Goodwin, Alabama (tennis); Luke Charpentier, Arkansas (football); Patrick Young, Auburn (football); Max Garcia, Florida (football); Max Godby, Kentucky (football); Philip Dempsey, LSU (cross country); D.T. Shackelford, Ole Miss (football); Jay Hughes, Mississippi State (football); Austin Fish, Missouri (swimming); Damiere Byrd, South Carolina (football); Brandon Fickey, Tennessee (tennis); Hayden Duplechain, Texas A&M (swimming).

The 12 additional female recipients are: Jaydn Spencer, Alabama (softball); Calli Berna, Arkansas (basketball); Tori Ball, Auburn (soccer); Jamie Shisler, Florida (gymnastics); Lauren Herring, Georgia (tennis); Dylan Supak, LSU (softball); Kelly McCormick, Ole Miss (soccer); Carmen Brothers, Mississippi State (cross country); Lydia Ely, Missouri (volleyball); Taylor Leach, South Carolina (soccer); Jessie Richardson, Tennessee (rowing); Kelli Benjamin, Texas A&M (swimming).
