NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt men’s basketball student-athlete Scotty Pippen Jr. was named a finalist for the Lute Olson award – given annually to the top player in Division I college basketball. Pippen is one of 25 finalists for the award.
Pippen led the SEC in scoring with 20.4 points per game. He’s the first student-athlete to score 20-plus points per game in back-to-back seasons since LSU’s Ronnie Hamilton in 1995 and 1996.
The native of Los Angeles, California, posted 30 or more points five times this season including 32 in the second round of the NIT against top-seeded Dayton. The guard also had 19 games with five or more assists with a season-high nine in wins over LSU and Georgia.
Pippen ranks among the best to ever don a Vandy uniform in a number of statistical categories. His 736 points this season are the most ever scored by a Vanderbilt student-athlete. He is also 12th in career points (1,577), fifth in career points per game (17.5), fifth in single-season assists (162) and third in single-season steals (70).
