NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Former Vanderbilt women’s basketball student-athlete Michelle Palmisano will be recognized as part of the SEC’s 2023 Women’s Legends Class it was announced on Wednesday by the league office.
A three-year letterwinner, Palmisano helped the Commodores advance to the NCAA Sweet 16 each season highlighted by a trip to the Elite Eight when she was a junior. She was a second-team All-SEC selection as a senior in 1997 after averaging a team-best 12.2 points per contest and setting a school season record at the time with 83 3-point field goals, a figure that still stands sixth in the Dores’ record books. Her 179 3-pointers ranked second all-time at Vandy at the conclusion of her collegiate career and is the eighth-highest total on the list today.
The 1996 H.W. Boyd McWhorter Award winner, Palmisano was also awarded an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship the following year. She was a three-time College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-American and was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll each of her three seasons.
The Southeastern Conference 2023 Class of Women’s Legends showcases former student-athletes and coaches from all 14 SEC member institutions. The women’s legends program began in 2001 with classes chosen every year with the exception of 2021 and ‘22.
The class will be honored at the 2023 SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament, March 1-5 in Greenville, South Carolina. Each legend will be recognized during halftime of their school’s first game of the tournament, and will be included in a group introduction at halftime of the second semifinal game on Saturday.
