SEC/ACC Challenge Matchups Announced

Both men's basketball and women's basketball teams will be on the road in Year 2 of the SEC-ACC Challenge

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — ESPN has announced Wednesday the schedule for the second annual SEC/ACC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Challenge. This multi-night event matches two of the premier conferences in college basketball against each other on ESPN’s family of networks.

Vanderbilt’s men’s basketball and women’s basketball teams will both play on the road in Year 2 of the SEC/ACC Challenge. The men’s squad will travel to Virginia Tech, while the women’s team will head to Miami (Fla.). Both games will be played on Dec. 4. Network designations and tip-off times will be announced at a later date.

On the men’s side, it will be the eighth meeting between Vanderbilt and Virginia Tech, with the Hokies holding the 5-2 series lead. The last matchup came during the 1977-78 season, where the Commodores dropped a 76-75 decision in Memorial Gymnasium. Vandy heads back to Cassell Coliseum for the first time since Dec. 29, 1975, and is seeking the program’s first win in Blacksburg.

In the SEC/ACC Women’s Challenge, Vanderbilt and Miami will meet for the fourth time. The Hurricanes leads the all-time series 2-1. It will be the first matchup between the programs since the 2018 Florida Sunshine Classic in Winter Park, Florida. It will be Vandy’s second trip ever to Coral Gables, as the Commodores previously played at Miami on Dec. 29, 2003. It is also a rematch of a Sweet 16 contest in the 1992 NCAA Tournament that saw Vanderbilt collect a 77-67 win in Charlottesville, Virginia, to advance to the Elite Eight.

The SEC/ACC Challenge is in its second season, replacing the two conferences’ previous challenges with the Big 12 and Big Ten, respectively, across both men’s and women’s basketball.

Season tickets for the 2024-25 Vanderbilt men’s basketball and women’s basketball campaigns are now on sale.
