PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — Vanderbilt got the ball rolling on the 2022-23 season Friday with 18 holes in California at the Carmel Cup.
Played at Pebble Beach Golf Links over 6,156 yards, the Commodores shot a 392 and are in eighth place after 18 holes of the 54-hole event.
Vandy was led by Celina Sattelkau who finished with a 4-over-par 76 and is tied for 24th. Freshman Lynn Lim, in her Vanderbilt debut, was one stroke behind and is tied for 27th.
Also making her debut with the Commodores, Tillie Claggett (tied for 33rd) carded a 79. She found four birdies on the front nine.
Natasha Kiel and Tess Davenport are both tied for 38th after an opening-round 80 and Virginie Ding is tied for 42nd at 9-over-par.
Stanford and Texas A&M are tied for the overall lead after a 2-under-par day. Jennie Park of A&M stood alone in first after firing an opening-round 66.

Commodores Ranked “26th”
Vanderbilt just missed making the top 25 in the Women’s Golf Coaches Association preseason poll released Friday by the organization.
Vandy received 36 votes, 11 votes behind No. 25 Kentucky. Stanford topped the poll while nine Southeastern Conference programs were inside the top 25.
