Commodore senior Kate Sborov carded a one-under, 71, on Saturday in the second round of the Clover Cup in Mesa, Ariz., to lead Vanderbilt at the Longbow Golf Club. As a team, Vanderbilt is in ninth place on the team leaderboard with a score of 596 (302-294).
Sborov’s 71 was the team’s best round of the day, and joined Courtney Zeng’s 73, and Abbey Carlson and Alexandra Farnsworth’s 75’s as the Commodores’ counters on Saturday.
“Well, we obviously posted a better number today but when you look back at the round you see five double bogeys that we had to count. That’s tough,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “But with that said, I’m proud of how we reacted after making those mistakes. Farney and Courtney were four and three over after two holes. They played the final 16 holes one and two under. That’s great. We just need to start better. I was really happy for Kate. She was solid all day. As for tomorrow, it’s imperative that we stay focused on things that are in our control. Being committed to the shot at hand is the most important.”
Arizona State is the team leader heading into the final round with a 20-under, 556. Oklahoma’s Julienne Soo is the individual leader with a 12-under, 132.
The third and final round concludes on Sunday from Mesa.
