Sborov named Scholar Athlete of the Year, Carlson to All-Freshman Team

Senior Kate Sborov claimed the SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year for Women’s Golf on Thursday, and freshman Abbey Carlson was named to the All-Freshman team in an announcement made by the Southeastern Conference in Birmingham. Sborov becomes the Commodores’ first-ever Scholar Athlete of the Year selection, while Carlson becomes Vanderbilt’s seventh All-Freshman Team member.

Sborov, a Medicine, Health, and Society major with a 3.7 GPA, will graduate this May and attend medical school in the fall. She is also a part of the first Vanderbilt immersion class offered in emergency medicine. She and her classmates worked alongside emergency medicine research team members in Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s emergency department. Read more here.

Carlson was second on the team in stroke average this season with a 74.46 average in 28 rounds played. She had a low round of 68 in the second round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, and finished seventh at the Mason Rudolph Championship in her best finish of the season.
