AUBURN, Ala. — Sarah Jacobs, who concluded her Vanderbilt golf career last week with a sixth place individual finish at the NCAA Championships, has been named honorable mention All-American by the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA).

Jacobs, a senior from Whites Creek, Tenn., posted a 1-under total of 287 in her final collegiate tournament, leading a depleted Commodore squad to a surprising fifth place team finish at the NCAA Championships.  Later in the season, Jacobs earned First Team All-SEC honors after helping Vanderbilt to the conference title.

Another Commodore who missed the NCAA Championships, May Wood, was one of 12 golfers garnering First Team All-American recognition by the NGCA.

Jacobs, a two-time Tennessee state prep champion at Davidson Academy near Nashville, is one of the elite amateur players in Tennessee.  She is a two-time winner of the Tennessee State Amateur Championships, then followed with an individual victory in the Tennessee Open Championship last summer.  Last month, she was awarded a special exemption to play in the Franklin American Mortgage LPGA Championships held at the Vanderbilt Legends Club.

The National Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women’s collegiate golf coaches. The NGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition. Today, the NGCA represents over 325 programs throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
