Running Start: Dores hold first official practice

Oct. 2, 2016

First-year head coach Stephanie White and the Vanderbilt women’s basketball team ushered in the 2016-17 season on Sunday, holding their first official practice.

The workout was open to the fans, and a large group of Commodores supporters turned out to watch. After practice, the Vanderbilt players and coaching staff signed autographs and mingled with fans.

“We were so excited to have the opportunity to get everybody on the floor and really get to work,” said White. “We are going to continue to grow and get better every single day. … We had a great turnout from our fans today, and we look forward to continuing to see (them) at Memorial Gym.”

Said point guard Minta Spears: “Someone in the training room (before practice) made the comment that today felt like game day — and it really did. We are all so excited.”

See below for video interviews with White, along with Spears and Marqu’es Webb.

The Commodores will host two exhibition games — vs. Bellarmine on Oct. 30 and vs. Union on Nov. 6 — before playing their regular-season opener on Nov. 11 against Kennesaw State at Memorial Gym.
