Commodore freshman guard Riley LaChance claimed the Southeastern Conference’s Freshman of the Week honor for his play last week against Purdue, when he scored 26 points on 9-of-13 shooting (.692) from the field in a win over Purdue. The award is the first honor for LaChance, and the second for the Commodores this season. Wade Baldwin IV won Freshman of the Week honors earlier this year.
LaChance notched new career highs in field goals made (9), free throws made (5), and three pointers made (3), and scored the most points by a Commodore freshman since A.J. Ogilvy scored 27 points on March 13, 2008, in a first-round game of the SEC Tournament in Atlanta. For the season, LaChance is averaging 12.0 points per game.
The honor for LaChance is the 12th Freshman of the Week award for a Commodore player.
The Commodores return to the floor Tuesday night against Western Carolina at Memorial Gym (8 p.m., SEC Network).
