The SEC’s leading freshman scorer, Riley LaChance, was honored by the SEC as the league’s Freshman of the Week for his play last week in two Commodore wins over Mississippi State and Ole Miss. He averaged 17 points, 4.5 assists and three rebounds in wins against Mississippi State and at Ole Miss. LaChance scored 15 points in a home victory over Mississippi State, and scored a game-high 19 points in a road win at Ole Miss.
For the week, LaChance shot 52.2 percent from the floor and 57.1 percent from 3, and tied a career-high with five made 3s while dishing out a career-high eight assists against the Rebels on Saturday.
LaChance set a new Vanderbilt record with his fourth freshman honor, surpassing John Jenkins (2009-10) and A.J. Ogilvy (2007-08) for the most Freshman of the Week awards by a Vanderbilt player. For the season, LaChance leads all freshmen with 12.5 points per contest.
The Commodores take on Tennessee Thursday evening in the second round of the SEC Tournament at 6 p.m. at the Bridgestone Arena, a game that will air on the SEC Network.
